A new report from a government watchdog has linked Democrat President Joe Biden’s “unlawful food stamp expansion” to significant increases in grocery prices.

According to a study conducted by the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA), the substantial and permanent increase in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in 2021 has resulted in a national surge in grocery prices.

“In 2021, the Biden administration rushed through the largest permanent increase in food stamp benefits since the program was created, hiking benefits by an average of 27 percent,” the report detailed.

The study revealed that the Biden administration’s substantial expansion of food stamp benefits is associated with a minimum 15% increase in grocery prices.

In 2021, Biden’s Department of Agriculture introduced updated nutritional standards for federal food benefits, effectively expanding the program by approximately 25% compared to pre-pandemic levels.

The FGA’s findings indicate that total spending on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) more than doubled from 2019 to 2022, surging from $4.5 billion in 2019 to $11 billion in 2022.

The FGA is accusing the Biden administration of implementing an “unlawful expansion” of the program and is urging Congress to repeal it, requiring congressional approval for any future changes.

“This unlawful expansion — which bypassed Congress — will cost taxpayers $250 billion over the next decade and has heavily contributed to soaring grocery prices,” the report continued.

“Congress should repeal President Biden’s unlawful food stamp expansion and ensure this type of executive overreach cannot happen again.

“In doing so, Congress could save taxpayers more than $193 billion over the next decade.”

The Congressional Budget Office has projected that the food stamp expansion may result in a cost exceeding $1 trillion to United States taxpayers over the next decade.

Jonathan Ingram, who serves as the vice president of policy and research at the FGA, expressed to Fox News, “USDA manipulated the numbers to justify a 27% increase in food stamp benefits, which is the largest permanent increase in the history of the program.”

“And they bypassed Congress to do it.”

“Data show the Biden administration’s overreach led to massive spikes in grocery prices,” Ingram added.

“They’re feeding inflation, not stopping hunger.”
