(Slay News) – Feds are now closing in on Hunter Biden as prosecutors advance the federal tax investigation into the Democrat president’s son, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal.

Federal prosecutors are gathering information from several of Hunter Biden’s associates about his foreign income, including from Ukraine, Russia, and China.

Authorities are also looking at a relationship with a company that handled Hunter’s finances to see if there was a scheme to avoid paying taxes.

As one example the feds are probing, the Journal details a case where money moving between partners ends up with Hunter driving a new sports car.

They are also looking into Hunter’s drug abuse to see if he can use that excuse to dodge responsibility for his actions.

From The Wall Street Journal:

“In recent weeks, prosecutors from the U.S. attorney’s office in Delaware have sought information and grand-jury testimony about the money Mr. Biden received several years ago from Ukrainian natural-gas company Burisma Holdings Ltd., and how he used that money to pay some obligations.”

“Last month, prosecutors also extensively questioned at least one other associate of Hunter Biden about Mr. Biden’s drug and alcohol use, spending habits and state of mind in 2018, suggesting prosecutors are exploring whether such activity would present a defense against a potential criminal tax case.”

The money came from a Singapore-based company controlled by Kazakh businessman Kenges Rakishev, the report added, citing a document viewed by The Wall Street Journal.

The day after receiving the money, Rosemont Seneca sent the same amount to a New Jersey car dealership to purchase a sports car for Hunter Biden, his former associate said.

Prosecutors have questioned several ex-associates of Hunter Biden in order to determine whether he moved funds in a way to obscure his tax liability, the report said.

They also expressed interest in his business dealings in China.

From Newsmax:

According to former federal tax prosecutor Matt Mueller, of law firm Fogarty Mueller Harris, prosecutors will frequently try to get such testimony on the record before the defense has a chance to frame it more favorably at trial.

“It doesn’t necessarily mean an indictment is imminent, but it is indicative of trying to lock in testimony with an eye towards a potential trial someday,” Mueller told WSJ.

Mueller is not involved in the investigation.

As part of their expansive investigation into Biden’s business dealings, prosecutors have called several of his associates and other witnesses within the past year to testify before the grand jury.
