(The Post Millennial) – President Joe Biden’s approval rating has slid down to a new low of 43.4 percent, according to FiveThirtyEight’s average of polls. This continues a trend, as Biden’s approval rating has been slowly sliding downwards throughout all of 2021.
Biden’s disapproval rating as president also reached an all-time high in FiveThirtyEight’s average, coming in at 50.7 percent on Friday.
The president’s approval sank in August amid the Biden administration’s botched withdrawal from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, which ended with the tragic deaths of 13 US service members in a suicide bombing.
FiveThirtyEight’s average of current polls calculating Biden’s popularity and unpopularity is “an updating calculation of the president’s approval rating, accounting for each poll’s quality, recency, sample size and partisan lean.”
According to FiveThirtyEight’s website explaining the methodology, “a high approval rating can marshal support for a president’s agenda and minimize his party’s losses in the midterm elections — not to mention help the president himself win re-election. But a low approval rating can be electoral poison and imply that a president has lost the mandate to govern entirely.”
The famous Saturday Night Live comedy program even felt obliged to point out that Biden’s “approval rating is in the dumpster” during SNL’s cold open Saturday.
The Biden administration has currently found itself stuck in the mud, with Congress extremely divided on many issues.
The House and the Senate have been locking horns on issues such as vaccine mandates and the management of the COVID-19 pandemic in general.
They have also received strong pushback on recent infrastructure bills that are considered crucial to the Biden agenda, both from Republicans and moderate Democrats, but also from progressives farther left than the mainstream party.
