(SNews) – Democrats are desperately scrambling to block Fox News star Tucker Carlson from reporting on his findings from the Jan. 6 tapes.

As Slay News reported, Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has given Carlson access to 41,000 hours of Capitol surveillance footage from January 6, 2021.

However, Democrats are trying to frame Carlson’s access as a “breach” that allegedly poses potential national security risks.

On Tuesday, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) sent a letter to his Democrat colleagues saying his team is “working to confirm the precise nature of the video transfer.”

In the letter, Jeffries warns that Carlson’s reporting on the Jan. 6 tapes “endangers the hardworking women and men of the United States Capitol Police.”

House Democrats will discuss plans to block Carlson’s access to the footage during a virtual caucus meeting set for Wednesday afternoon.

Jeffries said members will hear presentations from House Administration Committee ranking member Joe Morelle (D-NY) and Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), who was chairman of the now-defunct January 6 Committee.

Axios first reported on Monday that McCarthy shared with Carlson 41,000 hours of surveillance footage.

The trove of footage reportedly covers everything captured at the U.S. Capitol on the day of the Jan. 6 riot.

Carlson later said on his show, “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” that his team has been granted what they believe to be “unfettered” access to the tapes.

He said he plans to start sharing what they have found next week.

“Some of our smartest producers have been there looking at this stuff, trying to figure out what it means and how it contradicts, or not, the story that we’ve been told for more than two years,” Carlson said.

“We think already that in some ways it does contradict that story.”
