(BLP) – Is bipartisan gun control going to become a reality?
On June 14, 2022, Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell revealed that he tentatively supports a bipartisan proposal on gun control and has expressed his willingness to vote for said legislation.
This gun control proposal includes “red flag” gun confiscation orders, stronger Federal Firearms Licensing (FFL) laws, and stronger background checks for individuals in the age range of 18 to 20.
“For myself, I’m comfortable with the framework and if the legislation ends up reflecting what the framework indicates, I’ll be supportive,” McConnell said to reporters following the weekly Senate GOP conference lunch.
In light of this news, McConnell is now the 11th Republican to voice his support for this bipartisan proposal. Put simply, the legislation, provided that it stays in its current form, will now have enough votes to overcome a filibuster.
The 10 other Republicans who support this proposal include:
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas)
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.)
Rob Portman (R-Ohio)
Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.)
Richard Burr (R-N.C.)
Mitt Romney (R-Utah)
Bill Cassidy (R-La.)
Susan Collins (R-Maine)
Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.)
Pat Toomey (R-Pa.)
All Democrats in the Senate are expected to vote for this proposal.
“If this framework becomes the actual legislation, it’s a step forward,” McConnell stated.
McConnell proclaimed that passing a bill in response to mass shootings in Buffalo, New York and Uvalde, Texas would show the American people “that we can come together, which we have done from time to time on things like infrastructure and postal reform, to make progress for the country.”
Second Amendment supporters are likely facing the biggest threat to their liberties in recent memory. Anything bipartisan that comes out of the DC Swamp should make any freedom-lover’s ears perk in total horror.
No compromise organizations ranging from the National Association for Gun Rights to Gun Owners of America will undoubtedly have their hands full on this occasion. It’s moments like these that will separate the real defenders of liberty from the fakes.
