(BLP) – The majority of voters believe that the corporate press isn’t grilling President Joe Biden as hard as former President Donald Trump. A recent Rasmussen poll showed that voters still believe “fake news” is a major problem.
The Rasmussen survey found that 54% of likely American voters believe that the corporate press is less enthusiastic about questioning Biden than they were in questioning Trump. Only 18% believe that the corporate press is more hostile towards Biden. On the other hand, 23% indicated that the media coverage of Biden was roughly the same as it was under Trump.
80% of voters view “fake news” as a serious problem in the media, which includes 56% who indicated that the “fake news” problem is “very serious.” Voters, at a clip of 58%, agreed with Trump’s 2019 remark that the media are “truly the enemy of the people.”
50% of voters don’t trust the political news they consume, while 31% trust political news and 20% are unsure.
As far as partisan lines are concerned, 46% of Democrats trust the political news they’re receiving, while only 20% of Republicans trust the news. 25% of unaffiliated voters said they trust the political news they’re consuming.
Similarly, 89% of GOP voters said that “fake news” is a “Somewhat Serious” problem in the media, which includes 68% who believe it’s a “Very Serious” problem. 75% of both Democrats and independent voters believe “fake news” is at least a “Somewhat Serious” problem in the media.
On the income front, voters earning above $200,000 are much more likely to believe that the media ask Biden tougher questions than they do with Trump. By contrast, individuals making between $50,000 and $100,000 believe that the corporate press is treating Biden with kid gloves.
The media is the enemy of the people. Right-wing populists need to continue supporting the alternative media ecosystem and ensuring that social media platforms still function as free, public squares. This is the best way to keep fake news at bay.
