(The Post Millennial) – Police have arrested and charged 25-year-old Ali Harbi Ali after he allegedly stabbed British MP David Amess to death during a constituency meeting on October 15.

Following the gruesome killing of conservative MP David Amess in Leigh-on-Sea on October 15, police arrested 25-year-old Ali Harbi Ali. He has since been charged with murder and preparation of terrorist acts, and is due to appear at the Old Bailey on Friday.

According to the BBC, Ali, whose father is a former advisor to Somalia’s prime minister, allegedly visited the Amess’ home multiple times throughout the past year in preparation for a potential attack. Amess’ assassination was labeled a terrorist incident, with the Metropolitan Police citing possible links to Islamic extremism.

Since the incident, the Met have been working with Parliament’s security team as well as the Home Office to see what can be done to better protect MP’s from attacks.

Sir David Amess, a Tory MP for Southend West, died at the scene after being stabbed multiple times. He is survived by his wife and five children.

Condolences have poured in from around the world, including from his political opponents. Even Labour leader Keir Starmer offered his sympathies. As the Guardian reports, Amess is one of only six British MP’s to be killed while in office since World War II.
