Former President Donald Trump has given his endorsement to Trent Staggs, the Mayor of Riverton, Utah, and a candidate for the Senate. Staggs is vying to replace Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT). Trump expressed his support for Staggs in a recent post on Truth Social, highlighting his unwavering commitment to the “MAGA” movement and praising his accomplishments as a highly successful entrepreneur. In contrast, Trump criticized Romney, labeling him as a “total loser.”

“Trent Staggs is 100% MAGA, and is running to fill The Mitt Romney, a Total Loser, Seat as the next Senator from the Great State of Utah! A Highly Successful Entrepreneur, who has served brilliantly as Mayor of Riverton for the past six years,” Trump wrote.

According to his website, Staggs has been a member of the Riverton city council for a duration of six years, and has also held the position of mayor for a period of four years. During his tenure as the mayor of Riverton, Staggs has adopted a “business-oriented approach” and successfully implemented measures to reduce taxes, all while enhancing the provision of services for the residents.

“Trent knows how to Create Jobs, Stop Inflation, Grow the Economy, and Secure the Border,” Trump continued. “As your next Senator, Trent will help us Unleash American Energy, Support our Military/Vets, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment. Trent Staggs has my Complete and Total Endorsement – He will be a GREAT Senator, and never let you down!”

Staggs has repeatedly voiced his disapproval of Romney, a strong adversary of the previous president. In 2023, Staggs expressed that the voters in Utah feel completely betrayed by Romney’s voting history and his lack of presence in the state.

Furthermore, Staggs has characterized Romney as being disconnected from the Republican voters in Utah. When Romney announced in September 2023 that he would not seek reelection, Staggs promptly remarked that Utah was prepared to embrace an “America First candidate.”
