Former President Donald Trump expressed his enthusiasm to Breitbart News regarding the endorsement of his presidential campaign by Ameer Ghalib, the Muslim Democrat mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan, in his contest against Vice President Kamala Harris.

I was very impressed with him and he was a very big fan of the Trump administration because he saw no wars — outside of defeating ISIS, but I inherited that — but there were no wars,” Trump told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview Sunday afternoon. “There was no October 7. There was no Russian attack on Ukraine. He sees that and he told me — he saw a world that was at peace. Now, we have a world that’s going to end up in World War 3 and I can stop that. I’m the only one that’s going to stop that.”

During a phone interview lasting nearly an hour on Sunday, Trump expressed to Breitbart News his willingness to visit Hamtramck for a campaign event. He also indicated his desire to engage with leaders of the Arab American community who are dissatisfied with the shortcomings of the Harris and Biden administration.

“The answer is if the opportunity presents itself I would do that,” Trump said when asked if he would hold a rally or a campaign stop in Hamtramck. “It can’t remain the way it is now with the hatred that’s going around.”

Ghalib, the mayor of Hamtramck, is a Democrat and a Yemeni immigrant who represents one of the largest Muslim populations in Wayne County, Michigan, where approximately 60 percent of residents identify as Muslim.

Earlier this year, Ghalib played a significant role in mobilizing Muslim Democrats to vote “Uncommitted” against Biden during the Democratic primary in Michigan. This initiative subsequently evolved into the “Abandon Biden” campaign for the general election and has now transitioned into the “Abandon Harris” movement.

During an appearance on Breitbart News Saturday on SiriusXM 125 the Patriot Channel, Ghalib expressed admiration for Trump, although he has not yet formally endorsed him. He shared that he and Trump had a “very productive meeting” last week in Flint, emphasizing Trump’s desire to avoid new military conflicts should he be re-elected as president.

“I talked to President Trump about, you know, some statistics here in Wayne County and how it used to be a stronghold for the Democrats, and we always used to vote Democrat,” Ghalib said. “This is not the case anymore here.”

On Sunday afternoon, while engaging in a conversation with Breitbart News, Ghalib officially declared his support for Trump in the presidential race. This endorsement signifies a significant change in the voting patterns of Arab constituents, moving away from the Democratic Party and aligning more closely with Trump and the Republican Party. Trump subsequently emphasized this endorsement on his Truth Social platform.
