Donald Trump, the ex-President, promised to commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht, the creator of the “Silk Road” platform, in a speech delivered on Saturday.

Ulbricht received a punishment of two life terms plus 40 years in jail for establishing the website that facilitated numerous illicit activities, such as drug sales, hacking services, and counterfeit identification documents, as stated in a press release by the Justice Department in 2015. Trump disclosed his plan to commute Ulbricht’s sentence while speaking at the Libertarian National Convention in Washington, D.C.

“If you vote for me, on day one I will commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht who will have a sentence of time served,” Trump told the attendees, who broke out into applause after booing the former President on some occasions during the speech. “He’s already served 11 years. We are going to get him home. We are going to get him home.”
