Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her condolences for the “innocent lives” lost among Palestinians in Gaza during an Israeli rescue operation that successfully freed four hostages, while speaking at a Democratic Party event in Michigan on Saturday night.
Fox 2 Detroit reported:
“Before I begin, I just say a few words about the morning which I know weighs heavily on all of our hearts,” [Harris] said.”On October 7th, Hamas committed a brutal massacre of 1,200 innocent people and abducted 250 hostages.”
“Thankfully four of those hostages were reunited with their families tonight. And we mourn all of the innocent lives that have been lost in Gaza, including those tragically killed today.”
The Palestinian civilian families held the four hostages near the marketplace in Nuseirat, a city in central Gaza, as reported by both Israeli and Palestinian sources. Palestinian sources allege that 210 individuals lost their lives during the raid, but these figures cannot be verified independently and do not differentiate between terrorists and civilians.
Israel stated that the number of casualties was below 100 and emphasized that a significant portion of those killed were terrorists. In an attempt to diminish the jubilation surrounding Israel’s achievement, individuals supporting the Palestinian cause claimed that Israel had committed a “massacre” on Saturday. Harris, while addressing the audience in Michigan, a region known for its anti-Israel radicalism, seemingly aimed to pacify these voices.
