Democrat Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) faced allegations of hypocrisy due to contradictory actions in relation to the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Pelosi was accused of hypocrisy regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict in a recent interview with German-based DW News. During the interview, anchor Tim Sebastian pointed out to Pelosi: “You are responsible for this.” Sebastian’s statement came after he emphasized that Pelosi and Congress had approved aid for Israel. The criticism arose when Pelosi condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the civilian casualties in Gaza.

“If you don’t like what Israel is doing, and the president has made it clear that some of what Israel is doing he doesn’t like, and you go on supplying them with hardware to do these things, you own this operation every bit as much as they do, don’t you?” Sebastian asked Pelosi.

She made an attempt to refute it, naturally. Indeed, just like she frequently did during her tenure as the Speaker of the House, Pelosi spoke with contradictory statements.

“No, we don’t. We don’t,” she responded.

“We have always supported Israel as our national security friend largely because it was in our interest to do so.

“We had shared values; [it’s] the only democracy in the region.

“The behavior of Netanyahu is, in my view, inexcusable in terms of how it has affected the … collateral damage of children and families and the rest, but nobody can take away the right of any country to defend itself that has been brutally attacked in that way.”

However, Pelosi and the Democrats cannot have it both ways. If they support Israel’s right to defend itself against an unprovoked attack that resulted in the deaths of 1,200 Israeli citizens, which is equivalent to almost 47,000 U.S. citizens based on population percentage, it would be hypocritical to criticize Israel for retaliating.

It is worth noting that when the United States was attacked on September 11, 2001, no one dared to criticize our country for fighting back after more than 3,000 American citizens lost their lives. The resulting war in Afghanistan lasted for 20 years, although the recent pullout under Biden’s administration was not executed smoothly. Israel has made a commitment to eradicate Hamas, but unfortunately, Hamas terrorists often use civilians as human shields. This is not Israel’s fault, and the international community should refrain from interfering and allow Israel to handle the situation.

There is no evidence to suggest that Israel is committing atrocities such as the rape of civilians or the burning of children in ovens, as Hamas has done to them. In the absence of any such atrocities or war crimes, it is crucial for the international community, including the United States, to let Israel defend itself and fulfill its promises. The constant hand-wringing by Democrats like Pelosi and Biden only serves to make them appear hypocritical and, quite frankly, ridiculous. It is time for them to demonstrate the courage of their convictions and support Israel in its current endeavors.
