Republican Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has urged his fellow GOP Senators to exhibit courage and take action by impeaching Democrat President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas. Cruz made this plea while appearing on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures.” This call from Cruz follows the recent impeachment of Mayorkas by the U.S. House of Representatives, led by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), as reported by Slay News.

Now, Cruz is urging Republicans in the U.S. Senate to emulate their GOP colleagues in the House. During his appearance on Fox News, Cruz highlighted the fact that the Senate is currently under Democratic control and that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) will likely attempt to thwart the impeachment effort.

“I got to tell you, with the Mayorkas impeachment, you know what Schumer wants to do?” Cruz said to host Maria Bartiromo.

“He doesn’t even want to have a trial.

“He doesn’t even want to have senators vote on guilty or not guilty.

“What he’s trying to do is simply table it, just put it aside.”

In the context of American history, it is worth noting that the Senate has never tabled articles of impeachment. Consequently, the U.S. senator emphasized this fact and urged his fellow Senate Republicans to resist Schumer’s attempt to table the impeachment of Mayorkas.

“And I got to say, look, if Republican leadership in the Senate doesn’t like the criticism, here’s an opportunity to demonstrate some backbone,” Cruz said.

He added, “They could stand up and say, let’s have a trial.

“They can stand up and say, you cannot refuse to even follow the constitutional process for impeachment.

“You can’t dodge responsibility.”
