A white Democratic congressman has faced criticism after he employed a racial slur while criticizing Republicans during a congressional hearing. Representative David Trone (D-MD), who is currently campaigning for the U.S. Senate, used the offensive term while addressing Shalanda Young, a black individual serving as the Office of Management and Budget Director under Democratic President Joe Biden.
A video recording of the hearing captures Trone discussing tax policy in the presence of Young, where he made use of the derogatory term “jigaboo” to refer to Republicans. As per the Merriam-Webster dictionary, “jigaboo” is a noun that is considered offensive and is utilized as a disrespectful term for a black person.
“So this Republican jigaboo that it’s the tax rate that’s stopping business investment, it’s just completely faulty by people who have never run a business,” Trone said during the hearing.
“They’ve never been there.
“They don’t have a clue what they’re talking about.”
